Just getting back into it again, and I am thinking of upgrading my 96SE sound system.

What is the 4V preout thing? I am assuming higher output driver on the PREouts. My question is does my amp have to 4V compatible?

I do not want a SUB in the trunk as I use the trunk a lot, and it will just get in the way. I am thinking of building a stealth sub under the passenger seat. Not much room, but I have found a nice 8" sub from POLK and another from JBL that is suppost to work well in a small enclosure (0.33 cubic). Not many others to choose from for that small of a sealed box.

Any comments?

Also what do you recommend for the doors. I do not plan to touch the rears, as they just are fill anyways. Should I go with seperates?

Thanks.

No man, what the 4V means is that the head unit puts out and its only helps if ya have an amplifer hooked up to it.
Ya see the amplifer whole job is to amplife the siginal from the head unit, more power from the head unit, less work the amp does meaning less heat whiches causes over heating.
I hope thta helps ya out if not u can e-mail me

Ps.by the way I got 8V pre amp out puts

The 4V Preout will also allow your amp to run a little cooler. Not much diffrence unless you have a huge class A type a deal but every little degree helps. Specially if your mounting your amp in a small place or have lots of them with lots of preout's to match.

The main reason manufacturers use 4 volt pre-outs is to reduce input noise thereby giving a cleaner signal into the power amp. With the higher pre-out voltage, there is less chance of ignition noise, stray RF, etc. modulating the input signal when it feeds into the power amp. This is especially important if the amp is mounted far from the HU (like in the trunk).

You should be able to use just about any power amp with your HU as long as it has an adjustable gain control for the input. My current amp was not designed specifically for a 4V input, but works just fine with my Nak CD40z when I dial down the input gain.

I second that! There is very little relation to pre-out volage and amplifier temperature.
Noise cancelation is the goal in having 4V+ pre-out. Most Balanced Line systems have even higher signal voltages, the end results in a higher Signal-To-Noise Ratio. This give you more, and clearer transients from your softest note to your loudest musical note.
