I have a 1998 (E0) SVT with 45,000 miles with no mods. I did change the transmission fluid to ATF with the Ford friction mod fluid 3 years ago. Over the past year I have had increasing problems with shifting gears from neutral when starting, particularly into reverse. When this happens I have trouble going into any gear other than 3 or 4. Recently I had to slightly rock the car to get it into reverse. However it is still an intermittent problem. The problem is the same whether the engine is hot or cold and I live in a warm climate. I do not have problems shifting between gears when in motion.
Any ideas on what the problem is?
