I already know that there is a hole in the firewall under the wiper cowel but don't want to go through all of that hasstle taking it off. I heard some people drilled a new hole but was wondering how I would go about doing that? How do I find the right spot, and what side do I drill from? I know i'm going to need a grommet and silicone to seal the hole once the 4 guage wire is in it. I just need help with the location of the hole and what side to drill from. The only thing I'm afraid of is hitting something important while drilling. Thanks everyone.

I installed 4 guage yesterday, and it took all of 10 minutes to pull the wiper cowl and reinstall it when I was done. It probably would have been even faster if I hadn't been shivering like whoa...

I would definitally say that this is the safest most reversable method of installing the wire.

Getting a drill up behind the firewall will be a royal pain in the ass from either side, and there's wiring and whatnot you don't want to hit on both sides.

Agreed, I would never drill a hole to the outside of my car, especially the firewall.
The cowl isn't that bad.
Remove the wipers, the cowl, the rubber "stopper" and you're set. It's not a hassle at all.

Good luck!

If you have had an alarm installed they would have drilled through the firewall mostlikely. Just follow the wire(s) coming from your alarm horn. Just another option.

I installed my power wire last night and went through the wiper cowl grommet like everyone recomends doing. It only took about 10 minutes and it makes for a clean install too. I took some pictures, so as soon as I upload them I will post them for you to look at.

if you take off the wiper cowl (torx screws on the under hood part, regular phillips on the exterior surface, covered with small round plastic clips)

You'll have to take off both sides of the cowl (it's two pieces). Look in the hole by the drivers side and you'll see a round black rubber cap. It's against the firewall, and it unscrews. Poke a hole in the center of it, and run the wire through it. Then put it all back together again.

The wire coming through the firewall will be high up by the brake pedal, have a buddy look for it as you pass it through.

Good luck!
