I ordered parts for a new computer from newegg a couple weeks ago. Processor, heatsink, RAM, video card, motherboard. The video card was a refurb, but it turned out not to work right. So I RMA'd it. They got it on a Monday, Jan 26, but I didn't get notice that I was getting a refund until Friday, Jan 30. Not too bad I suppose.

Ordered a new one, last Friday, Jan 30, from gameve.com. BFG Tech GeForce FX 5900 for $169. Got it yesterday, and it doesn't work either. Terrible pixelation problems. Called BFG, they agree that it's a bad card. But, what's fishy, is the card I got, while a "retail" card, was not shrink wrapped. In addition, new BFG cards should have a plastic cover over the heatsink, with a bright yellow sticker on the heatsink saying "REMOVE BEFORE USE." My card didn't have those. The manuf date on my card is 01/03, over a year ago. So, I'm thinking that they sent me a used, refurbished, defective card, but sold it to me as brand new. I emailed gameve.com last night asking them what they intend to do. Their return policy states 15% restocking fee on EVERYTHING, plus a $6 charge because they gave me free shipping. Looking at $31 + return shipping ($10 at least, so $41) to return a product I shouldn't have been sent.

Pissed off at recieving a bad, apaprently used, card, I left a terrible rating for them at resellerratings. At the same time, I left a mostly positive review on newegg, but mentioned that I wasn't happy with them taking 5 days to get me a refund.

Couple minutes ago I got an email from Newegg's customer service offering me $25 off a new card and an offer to reimburse me for shipping on the defective card. Newegg gave me a 100% refund on the defective card in the first place, and their policies state that I pay for return shipping, so I figured we were square. They didn't have to offer me the discount and reimbursement. That's customer service.

This other place, gameve.com... Bah. Avoid them at all costs I say. There are several other people that received cards in the same shape as mine from gameve.com, so this isn't an isolated incident.

Newegg is that shiznit. Everything I've read as far as their customer service has been positive, and their prices are great too. I'm going to be in the market for computer parts soon, and newegg will be the ones getting my business.

newegg treated me right when i ordered my 128mb memory stick for my digital camera....got free shipping *and* a better price than i was finding on ebay or other etailer sites, and it came exactly when promised. they kept sending me my invoice email for a few days after i'd already received the thing, but....whatever. never having ordered from 'em before, i was quite pleased....glad to hear that they have as good a customer service department as they do, though!

and quite a shame about that other company....seems like there are a lot of sites like that in the electronics/computer retail world. not that bad service is exclusive to electronics and whatnot, but from what i read while shopping for my digital camera, that market seems to attract the crappily-run businesses with awful customer service with frightening frequency.

I bought some stuff from GameVE.com once (CPU and mobo that were each a few bucks cheaper than Newegg), and didn't have any problems, but they are definitely not Newegg quality.

Of course, Newegg == Kickass

Newegg is King! I buy from them all the time. Like Perry the refurb area is causing me to go broke by saving me money! I purchased a refurbished TV tuner from them but somehow the card was sold to someone else. To make good on my order they sent me a brand new, fresh in the box card for the refurb price. Will I buy from them again? You know I will! Will I tell everyone to buy from them? You bet I will! I love the fact that some companies actually "get" what customer service is!

I bought a DVD-RAM/R drive from newegg, and it died after about 30-60 days, RMA'ed it, recieved replacement in a week, (Ground shipping there and back.)

I always buy components from newegg, except for memory, which I always get direct from crucial.com

Got a message from Lawrence (manager? owner?) at gameve.com, and I called him back.

He says he is investigating matters.. There is a possibility that some merchandise that went out last Thursday and Friday may have been repackaged at BFG and accidentally shipped to them (uh huh). He claims that they don't do any inspection of the boxes, just get em in and send em right back out. Out of 1000 (he said) cards that they sent out last week, 27 had problems. Of those 27, 10 are problems like reported here -- stuff not working out of the box. He said he's getting 10 of them in on Friday, from BFG, for us 10 people. BFG won't get another large shipment for a couple more weeks.

He gave me a couple choices.. advance replacement where they charge me the full $169 for another card, and then refund that when they get my card. No thanks. RMA with BFG, which he claims that a "VP" said I wouldn't have to pay a return fee. I told him about calling BFG last night and that they told me I would have to pay the $15 fee. No thanks.

So I asked for a full refund, no restocking fee, no $6 free shipping fee. He was willing to do that. But he argued with me for a good 10 minutes about it. Offered to test the new card before sending it out - no, I want a sealed box. Kept trying to get me to do the advanced exchange, even offered not to charge me the $169. I wouldn't take it, I just told him that they've lost my trust and I want to completely wash my hands of any dealings with his company. He, kinda half jokingly, said, "What if I offered you $1000, would that make you happy?" I told him nope, I just want my money back and pretend that this never happened.

They sent me a used, defective, old product and they've lost my trust.

This will teach me to only order from newegg in the future. There's been several people looking to order computer parts recently... Lowest price isn't always best.

Amen. Sorry you had to go through all that though.

I've always never liked unprofessional people in sales/business who behave sarcastically like that. It's like they're taking a verbal jab at you because they're having a hard time getting their way.

The nice thing about New Egg is that even though they don't have to have the lowest prices, they're still very reasonable. I even bought my new CD player (IRiver SlimX 550 CD/MP3 portable) from them because I'd been impressed by their service when I put my computer together. I hope they stick around for a long time.

I ordered some "PC3500" ram from a company called "ocsystem.com"...They had great prices and I saw a few references to them on a overclocking forum, so I thought I'd give them a try. Big mistake! The crap they sent me surely wasn't PC3500; hell, it wasn't even PC3200. The only way it would boot is if I set my memory bus to 266, meaning it was really PC2100.

I tried calling, no answer for 5 days...I tried emailing, no reply for 2 weeks. Finally after I threatened leagal action, they responded to an email with a RMA number. So, I sent the ram back to them on 11-12-03...by 1-5-04, I had heard nothing from them. Sent 6 emails and never got a single response. So I finally called my credit card company and just did a chargeback.

Lesson of the story: ALWAYS SHOP AT NEWEGG!!!!!
