Hey folks!
First post... weird, haven't had one of these in a while!
Anyways, just bought myself a 98 SE (nice!), and had a strut seize up on me. pulled the whole strut/coil assembly out and removed the top strut mount, and 3 of us couldn't get the shock to budge, it was solid. left it in the bench vice and when i came back 10 minutes later it was fine, worked like a charm. so we threw the assembly back together and she's still riding like new...
long story short.. how on earth does a strut just fix itself? any ideas?

Could you see signs of fluid leaking out of the strut?

I have heard of situations were, if the strut or shock was leaking, it could allow water to get inside. This water can freeze and cause the strut to seize up.

If this were the case, by letting it set out in the open allowed it to thaw out.

I don't know. That is the only thing I can think of. That is unless you have gremlins around your house or something.

Real good possible explanation! Was the strut removed in a garage or outside in the cold?

We removed it in the garage in the heat... so that would definitely make lots of sense... the only thing is that there were no signs of leaking, and the strut has been back on the car for almost a week now (in the freezing cold) and i haven't had the slightest problem, it still rides like new!
ahh well... probably just gremlins

Hey do those Gremlins know anything about inner tie-rods?

Can I borrow your garage?

This had happend to me once. My rear shocks froze completely! At first I thought that it was the spring that was knackered but it turned out the shocks were frozen up! I used steam presure cleaner and thawed it out, but now that you mentioned it appears that whatever was inside is gone since I have to change them (very lound bangig over bumps)now.

boo-urns...
sounds like they're right blown..
well i'll keep my fingers crossed. seems to me like i might be riding on borrowed time with the struts i have, so i'll be careful with it. even if they go again, just a good excuse to upgrade
