I am looking for a new head unit for my 2000 contour SE. I was ok with the factory unit until it stopped reading my CD-R's now I am looking for something else what I would like in a unit is.

1. simple clean looking face ( I like either blue or green as the primary color of the lighting on the unit.)

2. MUST PLAY CD-R'S! (playing CD-RW's would be nice but not something I need)

3. AUX IN (I dont want to buy the head unit then have to spend another $100 to get AUX IN) I owuld prefer the Auxin on the back but front face would be ok also.

Some that I am looking at
Nakamichi CD-45z
Pioneer DEH-8200/DEH-7200
Blaupunkt Munchen
Blaupunkt Casablanca ( I like the features but am not crazy about the looks on this one)
Sony ES CDX-M650/M750 ( I like the active black panel and can live with the red colors when it is out but I dont like the lower end units with the red buttons that are always out.)

I do not know for sure if all of these have the features that I want so I am looking for comments on if these have what I want and also any other head units that might have what I want.
I am only planning on replacing the head unit at this time and I will be leaving the stock speakers in and bypassing the "premium" amp so I am sure I will be back asking more.

moxnix,
The first choice on your list should indeed be your first choice: Nakamichi CD-45Z.

Though I have "only" the 40Z, the 45Z was what I really wanted but the dealer did not have them available at the time.
However, I am absolutely thrilled with its performance & the 45Z should only be better as it is essentially the same unit, albeit with a 20-bit D/A converter vs. the 1-bit in the 40Z.

In fact, I am awaiting to see what Nakamichi introduces in January for 2001. If indeed they replace the 45Z with an updated unit I will upgrade my system with that model. If not, then a 45Z will ultimately grace the dashboard of my SVT next year.

IMHO you simply cannot go wrong with Nakamichi.
