I have a problem that I have had for a while, and my dealer can't find out why, that I would like some answers too. My Tour is a 2000 SE with a Zetec/ATX 41,000 miles and I bought it with 29,000 it has a tendenacy to miss when ATX is shifting up or down under load. Does anyone have any ideas??? I have a new IPS installed and a TPS installed with a total induction cleaning. Again any ideas. I was going to put some new wires on it.

Do you mean that it seems to shift hard? As in, it shifts really quick and seems to slam into the next gear. Or do you mean that during the time that it takes the tranny to shift from one gear to the next, the enigne runs really rough. Then smooths out after the next gear engages.

If it's the latter, I have no idea. But as for the hard shifts, it could be a host of things. I would suggest that you change your tranny fluid, since it needs to be change completely at least every 20k miles. See if that helps things out any.

No I mean that the engine is missing just after it shifts down a gear. And I've also have gotten the tranny flushed twice and B&G added to it.

I have to be honest with ya... I'm at a loss then.

When you say under load, I presume you mean the force generated just by the down shift.

I would check the motor mounts (a.k.a roll resistors), located under each side of the engine and see if they are cracked or worn. This can cause the engine to sag and actually rest on the subframe.

See, I am still looking at this more like a thud, then a miss. So I think I still might be a little off base. Then again, I have heard of shifting problems caused by these roll resistors. If they both are bad, they can actually cause the engine and tranny to flex in relation to each other. Sort of like this... \/ The first mark being the engine and the second being the tranny. The undue force on the crank and torque convertor can cause all sorts of weird things.

Just a few thoughts. But honestly, I am out of ideas without actually driving the car. Maybe someone else here has had this problem or heard of it. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

The only thing I can offer is to check wire connections on engine and tranny sensors. The ECM cuts spark and fuel during the shift and maybe it's not getting the feedback that the shift is complete.

Don't know which, but check the sensors one by one, pull off the connector, make sure its clean, if not, clean and put a little dielectric grease on.

Also, spark plug wires running near some of the sensor wires can cause bad information back to the ECM. Make sure no sensor wires are near the plug wires.
