I already have exhaust on my car, but I was just curious. Is there a combo. with a cat back and MSDS headers that would actually sound as quiet as possible when not on it?

Retain main cat.
Use a full bodied resonator.
Fit 10x14 mufflers in the rear. (yes it's possible, but it is VERY tight )

10x14 ??!! That will be a tight fit!

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I think Demon's got the right idea.
Alternately, I have the MSDS and the Brullen "quiet" with a resonator...and yup, it's quiet. It's still very sporty sounding, though. PM me with an email addy and I'll email you a short sound clip.

This is what I'm after right now... since the Cougar is now my winter car / daily driver and the Mustang is... the Mustang. Basically, the Cougar is not fast enough to justify making undue noise, so it's getting downgraded in the exhaust dept.

So far I've found that with MSDS headers and stock everything... the car is dead quiet inside with a faint rasp audible outside the car. With MSDS headers, o/r Y-pipe and stock cat-back... it's drone-free inside with a faint V8-ish growl, but outside it has a pathetic tin-can rasp. It feels considerably faster with the O/R Y, but I'd like to clean the sound up and maybe even free up some power by replacing the stock rear muffler. I'm actually considering a blowmaster of some kind, but I'm still not sure... I love the quietness and interior sound of the stock catback, but I'd like to improve the look and sound of it. I don't know if a flowmaster at the very end would make it drone with the stock res. in place.

Ok, I have the brullen cat-back quiet system too with stock everything ahead of it and it is loud as hell! Sounds great at idle but when you are driving it, its real loud. Maybe they sent me the loud setup instead, is yours pretty loud? My girlfriend absolutely hates the noise and it is a bit much for my taste. I am going to have the y-pipe optimized is there something I could add to the setup to quiet her down a bit and still retain all performance? thanks-Doug

Do you have a center resonator? If not, the addition of a center resonator/muffler will help tone the noise down inside and outside of the car.

I dont believe so, all I have are the two rear mufflers, the main cat and the pre cats. Will this restrict flow much? I am planning on buying a y-pipe soon with out the main cat. thanks-Doug

Get a center straight through resonator or muffler. This will not restrict flow at all. Oh, make sure has a 2.5" ID. If you buy an aftermarket y-pipe, it will only get louder. Without a cat it will be unbearable. I have the Brullen Y / Cat-Back combo and it is becoming too loud for my taste. It has become louder over the last month or so.....

Did you get the loud or quiet system? I really dont want it too get any louder than it is. I am now thinking of adding a resignator but I would really like to remove the cat. Do you have any good suggestions for a resignator?
