Check the wires leading to the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. Cheap cheap cheap! Under normal driving conditions, these wires had become brittle and all the insulation had cracked off inside the sheathing all the way to the top of the engine exposing alot of bare wires which had shorted together tripping the sensors. Stripping the wires back to "good" insulation and re-wrapping them solves the problem. You'd think Ford would do a better job at selecting under the hood wiring.

This happened on your 1998? I thought only 95-97 models had the bad wiring.
