I like the P5 much much better than my old contour se. High speed cornering is less, but tight corners are faster. Inteior exterior, everything I give up to P5. Even the Focus is crap compared to P5.

Good day.

Well there ya have it. We all love our cars for nothing... I'd like to think that a car so much more expensive, and that has 4+ years of technology would be better than our cars. But... I'm keeping my Tour!!!! Perhaps if he had an SVT before, rather than an SE...

Is there even such thing as a P5 in 2004? I guess a newer discontinued car is better than an older discontinued car.

Retailed in 2003 for like 17k or so right? Has 130 hp and 135 tq in a 2700 lb car. I figure it'd be a nice replacement for a mid-lower model contour, but I'd think an optioned out SE and witout doubt the SVT would outclass it by a good shot.

As long as you like you new car - I spose that's all that matters.

Did you consider stepping up to the mazdaspeed protege instead?

The P5 is now discontinued. The new 3 hatch replaces it in the 2004 model year.

The retail might have been 17K but they are going for way under that now.

My GF has one and while it is ok but I dont think it is a very good match for my SE even.

Handleing - good - feels a little better than my SE right now but I have about 123K on my orginal supension.

Acceleration - Does not feel as good as my almost stock car.

Inside - It's ok. I dislike the red lighting in the car but other than that it is about in the same class as the contour as far as looks and feel I think.

Outside - Personal opinion - I don't like the wagon look as much as some people do (yes it looks like a wagon no matter how many people try to tell me it is a hatch). I started driving on a ford taurus wagon so I tend to dislike all wagons now (but that 6 hatch looks nice)

My GF loves it and that is the importaint part about it so I can't complain (and the laser blue color does look pretty good).

You drive the only car I can think of off the top of my head that is actually SLOWER than my Focus... the idea that you even mention the words "high speed" in regards to a Protoge5 is hilarious.

Good Day

Man, you guys are brutal. I just bought a 2003 Miata and I traded in my SVT for it. Sounds like the guy was just excited about his new car. In most ways I would be comparing apples to oranges but i have to say the build quality of the Mazdas is far greater than my SVT ever was. Like the SVT, everything has a nice sound when shut and the Miata's paint is thin like the Contour's.

The I-4 engine is tight and rev happy, but not as smooth as the V-6. The body panels are strighter and the body panel gaps gaps in the Mazdas are far more consistant and narrower than the Fords. All of the Materials in the Miata feel much better and are more soothing to the eye, theres no excess plastic flashing like I had experianced in the SVT. The dash lights in the Mazdas omit an even glow across the whole gauge cluster which was something that always bothered me about the SVT.

Since the two vehicles are worlds apart in design, I won't compare the driving experiances for both. Happy Motoring.
