Hello Again, The 2.0 in my daughter's car has finally given up completely. We pulled the head off and found that the #2 Piston was broke in two pieces. It looks like rebuilding may not be a good option. Not really sure where all the pieces went. I am wondering if a newer model Zetec motor like the one in the Focus, etc. would be compatible with the 95 GL? Need to get her back on the road soon.

Focus one is about the same size, I have seem then before and they appear to be about the same size. However if they arent you will need to get new mounts to support it. Also plan on getting a new wiring harness, and a PCM, and most likely a few other things.
Why dont you just rent or buy a engine hoist, and a Haynes manual and the parts you need and fix your engine, it is cheaper by a long shot than swapping a newer engine for an older one.

I don't have alot of faith in this motor. It has been overheated twice now with devastating results! Warped the head and blew the head gasket last time. This time some thing except the #2 piston problem too. Figure I should cut my losses. I found several motors on the internet but only a couple for mystique/contours. The rest are Zetecs but for the other cars.
Thanks for the reply. I haven't completely ruled out the rebuild yet.

Focus Zetec is VERY different...been there, tried that...move on. Buy a contour motor.

Thanks for the advice about the Focus Motors. I will drop that thought from my mind.

i use to have a 97 contour GL sport Zetec engine i have a 99 now zetev VCT the only thing i see diffrent is the oil filter is smaller than the older zetec engine i beleive it can work
1999 Ford Contour SE Zetec with 137k miles.

Isn't the Escort ZX2 motor the same zetec?
