I was going for the "cool" look not the bleepin' bling bling look.

Are you selling a heat shield with the HAI? (Hot Air Intake)
Otherwise it will likely drop power by ingesting the much hotter air rising off the engine, tranny, and radiator.
Then the fans kick in...

That's exactly what i was thinking, that's why I asked. But I hear it's "tried and true"....

Brad had a large heatshield shielding a large portion of his filter.
He also used an insanely long filter that stuck down farther.

The first is a MUST.
The second is a skip it. (stick to a filter roughly 2 times your max cfm draw) Too large a filter can actually hurt performance.

The heatshield idea didn't work well. It was removed shortly after I first installed it. The reason for the large filter was because of the amount of dirt the filter would pick up would clog any normal sized filter in a heartbeat. The CAI pipe I used was also way to big for the application, but consistantly drew 1-2 tenths quicker than a normal CAI and 9" K&N filter in the quarter (Gtech) with back to back testing over 6 runs with each pipe. Theory is fine, but real world is better.

Also a note on this or any other CAI (HAI), it will clear itself of heat better with the battery relocated (or even just downsized on a smaller battery tray) and a heat shield blocking the fan air. Autotap scans have shown that a CAI like this one, without the heatshield or bat reloc., still clears the IAT of heat soak much quicker than the MAF/Filter in the *factory KKM* location.

I think this is a good pic for some that are curious and haven't seen before. This CAI was made by INJEN in 2001.
Regarding the "Heat Issue" I had it Ceramic Coated by Jet Hot.
The only difference is the powder coating, tube placements and the use of the stock MAF (which I would advice).
Looks nice Brad. Oh yeah was size is the pipe?

That's what I was thinking. As stated above relocating the battery will help a bit. I've done a bunch of testing with some stuff similar to this and I noticed some problems with regards to MAF placement - it's a bit picky as to where you orient it. I'm sure Brad knows all about this though.

Yeah, MAF rotation is needed, especially for when the fan comes on. On mine, I found that the MAF electronics block being towards the fan helped the best.

I'm really confused, first it's "tried and true" by a person I trust for knowing their stuff. Then from others that are pretty knowledgable saying "it will pick up more heat from the tranny, radiator, and block than it would in the "KKM location". I want one, but I think to clear it up, we need to get numbers comparing the 2 different setups and some realtime testing with both setups. I was going to dyno the difference between both setups when I got mine because I was going to dyno anyway soon. I already have the "KKM location" setup and would love to dyno these combos back to back, but I do not have the realtime software capable of gauging the temps we will see in these different setups. I figure if we get over these 2 obstacles, we will have a verdict....I just don't like the idea of wasting $100+, even for testing purposes, if it will not make a positive difference and I don't think other people do either.
