So I get pulled over in my own driveway last night. Failure to signal a turn. It was one o'clock in the morning and the cop was the only other car on my deserted neighborhood road. She comes up behind me (yes, she) and flips on her lights. She fails to identify herself and requests to see my license.
At this point, I'd been at work for ten hours and, like I said, it's one am and she's obviously looking for someone to hassle. I asked what I did wrong and she mumbles something about failing to signal a turn and how it's a valid traffic stop. Whatever.
She must have run me through Interpol because she took long enough. She came back and checked all around the car to see if she could find something wrong. She asks if I have insurance. I don't. I just purchased the car and I'm about to sell it. So I get cited for lack of financial responsibility. This is the same as simply failing to produce proof of insurance or keep it in the car.
So this happens at one am on 01/20. Five minutes ago, at noon on 01/20, I added this car to my existing policy. The liability insurance card will show effective today, 01/20, until my renewal date in March. Here's my question:
Am I technically covered for the dates of 01/20 until my renewal date? When I take my insrance card showing a start date of 01/20 and a ticket for lack of insurance on 01/20, will it get dismissed?
In Texas, a ticket for failing to produce proof of liability insurance is dismissable if you can produce proof to the court that you were, in fact, covered on that date.
Cops don't really suck. This chick might have had a bad day, but she was a b*tch. I was an jackass right back to her, though. I probably could have handled it better.

If Texas is the same as Illinois then: YES Your situation is eerily similar to what my brother went through a few months ago. He was pulled over for failure to signal and was also without insurance. This was at 1:30am on May 15. That same morning, he set-up an insurance policy and was sent a card stateing he was insured as of May 15. He took the card to court and it was dismissed. No questions asked. Nice loop-hole I thought.

Depends on whether the judge notices that the citation was issued at 1AM. He/She will know you obtained insurance after you were issued the citation. But, you can hope he doesn't notice or care.
If he does notice and calls you on it, then explain to him that you just bought it and plan on selling it. Take proof if you can. Maybe he'll be sympathetic.

That's the thing. No judge. No jury. No witnesses. I take the ticket and the proof to the court clerk who looks at it and dismisses it if it meets the criteria.
In theory, this should work fine. I'll keep you updated.

Yes, your insurance card shows the correct date. Dismised. AFTER that is done file a complaint on her. If she is mumbling, she's not being curtious. You were in your driveway, I believe that is very border line, besides Keller police suck more then most.

File a complaint because she mumbled? Come on.

In Minnesota as long as you have a existing auto policy, your car is automatically covered, even if you have not added it to your policy. You are automatically covered with the same coverage as your best insured vehicle on your current policy. You have ten days to add it to your auto policy, after that you have liability for 30 days. Hopefully, you have added it to your policy by then. So, i guess i should say, it depends on how long ago you bought the car. As long as you just bought it, and have a current auto policy, you are automatically covered. But thats Minnesota, not Texas...

Dude, no joke! I have to deal with Keller, Southlake, Roanoke AND Watauga. It's NOT a good combination.
I'll get the insurance fax today at work and take it up there tomorrow. We'll see what they say!
I don't think I have enough on her to file a complaint... other than treating me like a traffic stop in my own driveway. She was respectful, but discourteous and borderline rude. I was just the same back to her, though. I laughed at her ridiculousness several times. She didn't appreciate it.
By the way, who is Fulcrum?
