Turn your key to ON and see all the lights that lit. You should see it at the lower right part of the dash. It is a gas station pump with a litle triangle pointing right.
Not a good thing to see.

How big are the fuel tanks on Tours? One time at the gas station, I put about 12.3 gallons of BP Ultimate gas in it. Before I did this, the light had never come on.

well lets just say that bulb (and maybe others, just been too lazy to fix but i need the coolant light to work) is out, what then? how do i replace it? i know all of the fuses are good. How do i get back there to change those bulbs?

14.5 gallons.

Last time mine came on (only the second time ever) I put 13.2 gallons in, so there's not a whole lot of reserve. Assuming, of course, that the sending units are consistent from car to car. Which I bet they're not....

My low fuel light never comes on since day one. In fact I doubt I have that light at all. Have never run tank dry but did have gauge point right next to "E" couple of times.
If you're sure you have that light, it's likely that particular bulb is gone, rather than a fuse which would turn off all your instrument panel.

I have the same problem. The low fuel light used to come on anywhere from 1/4 tank to 1/8 tank level. I found I could go about 30 miles without trouble after that so I got in the habit (for 4 years!) of hitting the trip meter when the light went on and then being sure to fill up within 15 miles if I could. Well, recently, it only made it to 10 miles and I was out o' gas. First time in my life. Then a few weeks later - much to my shame, I ran out of gas and the light hadn't even come on. I had the shop look at it - the light is fine (turns on with the key), gage seems to work fine. My new method is fill 'er up at 1/4 tank. My get out o' jail free card for running out of gas has been used up so I don't think the hubby is going to rescue me again!

Well, I am positive that at least '95 Contours don't have that light at all... mine doesn't. Also, I have gone past the E and red marker by quiet a lot. Maybe it's just my gauge that is messed up.

Low fuel light probably a feature added in '98. My '97 doesn't have one, my '98 does.
