Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General Troubleshooting stalling/hesitation 1998 ford Contour 4 cyl.

i just had the vct solenoid replaced in my 98 contour 4cyl. and emailed ford crcfmc@customersupportctr.com (i suggest everyone with a P1381 - P1380 to email ford to try to get a recall on this part since it cost over 500.00 to fix once your car dies. and i think there must be a design flaw if it happens to this many people.) any way my problem now is the car seems to hesitate when pulling away from a stop and when i drive around and return home or anywhere for that matter i shift into park and after about 30 seconds the idle will fall off and come back then fall off and so on till finally about 30 seconds after it starts the car dies. it will restart only to do the same thing. the idle never idels high it goes back to normal for a second the falls off. i didnt have this problem till i got it back from shop. i did have a code 1131 i think it was but since i had the code cleared it has not come back on and that was over 100 miles now. it came on after the vct was changed. any advice would be welcome thank you. do email ford with this problem let them know what you think. it is the only way things will get done

check to make sure the shop plugged everything back up. i no on the duratecs if you unplug the MAF and try to go somwhere it almost stalls and then jerks forward and revs really high
