I need a computer to run Windows 95 OS system. My moms court Reporting software only runs on windows 95 and to upgrade of software Is over $4k. Here current computer an IBM 133mhz is pretty much shot. So she's looking to get a new computer that can run windows 95. Can somebody help me build one to run 95?It does not have to be anything special just a floppy and a cd rom. You can't buy a new one with 95 and somebody else tried to run It in XP and It didn't work. I have an Original copy of 95 also. Any help will do

You can install 95 on a brand new computer and be fine. You might have to update some of the device drivers for 95 so that it will recognize the newest hardware, but other than that you should be fine.
My grandfather has 98 running on a 2002 Compaq and it is fine. So i don't see why not.
You should see if her software will run on 98 or even ME. A lot of people will probably say no to ME, but I truly never had any problems with it.

Drivers may be hard to come by for newer hardware since Microsoft stopped supporting 95 about 4 years ago. How do hardware drivers work in dual boot systems? Do you have to have drivers for both operating systems? Maybe that's the way to go. You could still buy older hardware(not as old as what you have) and it would still be faster than what she has. A motherboard with a KT266 chipset would have been petty close to cutting edge at the end of Windows 95's life I think so you'll be able to find drivers for it. A new one will cost you about $30 and it uses DDR memory. An Athlon XP1500 CPU will cost about $50. Floppy, case, CD and hard drive and you've got your system. If you buy a new system from the big retailers it's going to come with an OS so... Driver support is the thing I'd worry about with a new system. Send Microsoft an email and see if they have any suggestions other then upgrade.

You're gonna have a real tough time finding drivers for new computers. Not to mention you're not going to be able use the full hard drive space. Just buy a used computer, like a Dell or a Gateway. (Gateways were solid computers back in the Win 95 days) Or try the compability link that was posted above me.

What Is That? Her computer now does even Come On. My friend took the hard drive out and put it on another system and the drive would even boot up.
