My engine has been stumbling at times so tonight I started the car and turned off the garage light. I didnt see any arcing until I gave her some throttle then I saw an arc of electricity traveling along one, maybe two plug wires. The wires are only a month old but they were a cheap 25 dollar generic brand. Tomorrow I will buy a set of motorcraft wires. But could it still be the coil pack? Thanks, John

I don't think the coil would be responsible for arcing along the plug wires unless maybe it's right near the coil.

It may not be the wires. That may of been a corona. If it was a spark, your wires are bad, but if it was like a blue halo around the length of the wire, that was just a corona which forms when there is high voltage in a cable. The air around the cable gets ionizes and you a get a neon like, blue glow that flashes with the firing of that plug.

It kind of looks like static and the more I rev the engine, the more I can see it. Like its eminating from within. Its not completely around the wire but it's along the length of the wire. Where the wire touched the uim, it stopped it from going further. It's a more white with blue. So the corona (means crown in Spanish) thing would be normal? Thanks, John

A laeking wire leaks a spark that starts at a point and ends up at a point. It is thin and bright. But your description does sound like a normal corona effect.

BTW Corona = crown = Beer!

One thing I have learned over the years is that I should always use Motorcraft wires. Any other brand has always performed like crap for me.

Also, use dielectric grease on both ends of the wire. Squirt it inside before installing each wire (and be generous with it).

The Autozone lifetime warranty wires seem to work well. I've used them in two Contours, an Escort, and a Mustang so far.
