I have a 95 Mystique with the 2.5 duratec. At about 60-70 KM hr I get a surging or hesitation like the car is mis firing or something? Below that speed its ok, and above that speed its also ok. If I throtlle down it has lots of pull...but if I feather the throttle in that 60-70km area it hesitates? I can't figure if its the transmision or the engine...but I think its the engine. The car kind of chugs like if that is a good description of what its doing. I put new Bosch Platinum plugs in the car as I have only had it a month...but it also did it before I replaced the plugs once or twice as well. I installed a new runner control valve as well. I have no check eng lights on or anything like that. It just does that surging like or missing in under 80km more like 60-80 km area.

Have you changed the fuel filter or PCV valve?
It might be plugged and not allowing enough fuel to the engine.
Not gonna say anything about the Bosch plugs, but I'm sure someone will......

I don't care what you say about the Bosch spark plugs as I described to you....it was doing it with the old plugs as well...and they were not Bosch. I did change the air filter, PCV valve, runner control, throttle body cleaned...all of this was after I bought the car...but Like I said...it was doing the same thing once when I was driving the car home the day I bought it. So process of elimination leads me to believe maybe a fuel filter is next on my list. But with that said...if it was a fuel filter it would hesitate at differant speeds?? but my chugging and surging seems to be 60-80Km only!! nothing under that speed and nothing over that speed.
BTW as a matter of interest...whats wrong with Bosch Plugs??
and please don't state hear say...unless you have facts about the plugs...please explain, Im always open to listen to your "FACTS" on a product.
Is there a way to test the coil ? to see if thats the problem?

Try changing the wires first. If you do a search of the forum, you'll find many threads that talk about the Bosch plugs. They're probably good plugs in other cars, but they just don't work well in the Duratech. I actually had them in my car and they did last for about 25k but then went south quickly. The consensus on the forums is that Motorcraft or Autolite plugs are the way to go.

I would suggest replacing your plug wires next, also. My 98 was doing the same thing as you have described. A new set of Autolite plugs and wires from Advance Auto Parts (about $75) fixed it.

Yep, it was the plug wires. I noticed one wire was slightly nicked and this could have been done by me when I was doing other repairs. I replaced the fuel filter as well, as the new wires and its running like a top now. Thanks for your input!!
