Hey experts,

I'm planning on replacing the stock stereo in my 2000 SVT.

I like the fact that Crutchfield includes installation instructions, but they seem overpriced. I think I'm going to go the ebay route and buy a Pioneer CD/receiver, 6x9 speakers for the front and 5x7 for the back, but I'll have to figure-out installation - any advice?

What other supplies will I need?

Do I need a wiring harness? If so where can I get one, and what will it cost? Any tips on installing a new harness?

My current speaker covers don't say anything about premium sound, just "STEREO" (?) so I don't know if I have a stock amplifier. How can I find-out? If I do have a stock amp is there anything that I need to bypass it?

Thanks in advance for info.

You will need know if 6X9 will fit.
5X7 or 6X8 are direct replacements, not 6X9.

For 6X9 you may need an adapter and find out if it will all fit.

There is a jumper for the factory amp, if you need one. Find the amp behind the glove box. You don't see it, you don't have it.

Other than an amp jumper and a head unit jumper, I would use all other factory wiring.

word of advice, if I may Ken. You must be EXTREMELY careful of who you deal with on eBay in terms of car audio. While crutchfield may be overpriced a little (maybe $10), you will find them to be a bargain in the long run. First of all, they will include a custom harness that will adapt the deck to your specific car automatically. You will be hard-pressed to find that on eBat ANYWHERE. They also include the tool you need to remove your factory radio (won't find that on eBay), and of course, instructions to install your new radio. That IMHO is very much worth the slight overpricing. Also, i forgot to mention the shipping, every time I ordered from Crutchfield, I have recieved my product the very next day!! They are extremely fast. Now dont get me wrong, I am not bashing eBay, having been a member for about 2 years now (jerseycat10 on eBay also), but just wanted to get my side of this!! Hope you make the right decision!!

forgot to add, i have been quoted about $30.00 for the wiring harness, and $5.00 for the OEM radio removal tool. I forgot to mention this too, if you do end up getting your radio on eBay, make sure it is NOT refurbished.

You can get the harness and tool at Crutchfield.

Dintool - $3.00
Harness - $9.00

I just bought these last week. The prices came right off of my reciept. Hope this helps..

Now I just have to figure out how to work the damn Din tools....
