For a contour/mystique of course IF you could start all over from completely factory everything, and have 1k in cash to spend on audio equip. Looking for the best SQ you could buy for your money. Name your products along with price. (Yes, besides for fun, I am taking note because I am going to try to create something for my tour with the above guidelines in the future.) Lets Hear them!!

For the HU, take a look at Alpine's 9813. It's a year old, but for about $300 it pretty much covers everything the 7998 model does, and still matches the Contour's interior (if that matters to you) It does as much as the new $450 Alpine deck does as well, just doesn't have as fancy of a display or the new styling (which incidentally clashes with the Tour's interior)

front stage: cdt classic 6.5 componets $150
2 channel amp: jbl 180.2 $150
subs: 2 eD K 12" $270
sub amp jbl 600.1 $210
box materials: around $40

okay so i went about $150 over. high end audio systems arent cheap and thats not even really high end.
give me 2k and i would have went with 2 onyx 12" and a 1200.1 give me about 3-4 k and i'd go w/zapco amps, DynAudio 360 componets, Onyx subs, audiocontrol 3.1,alpine unit with 7"lcd, or eclipse unit, and a few hundred dollars of sound deadener and 0 guage wiring, plus a good chunk of money for kick panels(i wouldnt even attempt making them myself)
blue 95 se MTX
alpine 9805
2 diamond 12" cm3's tuned to 38 hz
4 pioneer 3-ways(POS)

Deck: mid level alpine or kenwood excellon ($300_
Speakers:
2 sets of Crystal Mobilesound Crystal CSx615 (84.95 a pair from sounddomain.com)
Sub:
Stryke AV 12" (Best sub for the money imo $140)
www.stryke.com
Amp:
Soundstream EGA 2440 880x1@ 4-ohm RMS(169.00)
http://www.carstereoexpo.com/egsost2chcar.html
I paid 240.00 for this amp last summer and that was a great price, but now at this price it is a steal. Possibly lowest price on a high quality, high power amp ever.
Wiring from www.knuconceptz.com 30-50 dollars.
Total is 829 dollars!
One great sounding system with excellent brands and products and a price that just makes me want to cry when I look back and see how much I spent on my system!

The HU doesn't make a huge difference in sound, as long as it's aftermarket. Yes, you will probably be able to tell the difference with HU's in price ranges, but a lot of the time, it's not necessary. It could make a really tiny difference there IMO

For a HU, just pick a budget and find one with the looks and features you want. If a 4v output is important because you have had noise problems in the past, look for that. If a 2v is sufficient for your application and you want a wireless remote and MP3 capability, get that instead. A 200.00 alpine=200.00 clarion=200.00 pioneer=200.00 kenwood, etc...

With EQ turned off, I doubt that anyone here could hear the difference between a 150.00 Alpine and a 1000.00 Alpine providing both were using analog outputs. The difference in sound comes from using S/PDIF outputs to lower the noise floor and using better external DACs. 3 things in a system change the sound. EQ/Crossovers, Speakers, installation...Conspicuously missing are amplifiers and HUs (unless they have EQ/Crossover controls).

Heres what i have right now.. and what it cost me
Eclipse 5442 HU.. 220.. Eclipse 2010(?) Eq.. 80 Soundstream SVX4 crossover.. 40 Primier 4 Channel amp.. 60 Stinger 1 Farad Cap. 40 Soundstream Exact 6.5's.... 110 so 550 for all of that and about another 100 or soo in wiring...
For Subs I have a Cerwin Vega stroker 15 that my friend has in Missouri still just don't have time to go and get it back from him.. Hes not even using it its in his closet. Forgot to get it when i moved back to MI. It cost me 300 about 2 years ago... Then the amps for it is what kills me Haven't thought of ones ill use probably soundstream of some sort.. Class A 10.0 sounds good:)
Yes i am a Installer but the eq,crossover and the componets i got off of ebay... The Eclipse deck i got from a Local Car audio place that was last years and they needed to get rid of it.. When you decide to put something together shop around.. If you want a alpine then look for the best deal...
