Buicks are nice. Impalas are nice too, but I find them to feel too big. If feels like you're driving a boat. My friend has an Eagle Talon. Very nice car, reliable to boot.. Should be able to find a 2000-2001 for 10K, at most.

Both my sister and mother have Malibu's. My mother is on her second- she leased an '00 in '99 and just decided to buy an '02 recently. My sister has a '00 and loves it, as well. They are both the LS models.

I actually like driving them- they are nice cars...good size...and good 'get-up-and-go'! They're not the flashiest looking things, but are still nice!

Just food for thought!

I doubt a lot of people here will agree with my suggestions as I've seen a lot of ceg'ers bash the Maximas but I would look at one. You should be able to pick up a '00 or '01 Maxima around your price range and get power, room, good looks IMO and reliability. Or a Mistsu Galant (GZT I think it is) 6 cylinder '02 and 03 models should be in your price range but I don't know a whole lot about their reliablilty. Also for Mistu's you might be able to grab a '00 or possibly '01 Diamante, sweet looking cars if you ask me with nice power and lots of interior goodies. Even though I don't really like them you might check out the Dodge Intrepid or a Taurus even.

I hate the looks of the Malibus personally so if it were me I wouldn't even consider one. You could easily grab a CSVT for under your price range if you can find one in your area though. Or you could buy a non svt and put the extra cash into modding it up. Anyway, hope some of those sugestions help but while you decide you can check any number of websites to get ideas on what cars and prices are available in your area. Try www.autotrader.com or www.autosbytel.com and maybe you can get some better ideas from there.

I agree, the Maxima is a great car for the money. I think those are great buys, and would consider one as my next car. I prefer the older body style too (not the newest). Its a little bigger than the Contour, but is incredibly practical.

Personally, I will never own a Mitzu, at least none of the miztus from the last 10 years. I've seen friends with these cars, and they are just falling apart around them. They really seem to be cheap cars that don't last long, and are incredibly overpriced for what you're getting. Do research before you buy, and decide for yourself.

Be sure to hit the library and check out Consumer Reports Used Auto Guide.

Mitsus are overrated, and they are losing sales because of it. They tried to pass themselves off as "we are great cuz were Japanese too" and cashed in on F&F.

Get a GM car or a 3.0L 24V Taurus before any Mitsu, Hyundai, or Kia.

Thank you all so much for your replies...as always it is appreciated.

Today the insurance company called. They told me that are going to "TRY" and fix my Contour, but it is REALLY close to being totaled.

Then about an hour after I got off the phone with the insurance company, they called me back, and said that they are having it towed to Southgate Ford to have them look at it. So it STILL may be totaled - she said it's going to depend on what could be wrong underneath the car, in the rear, and how much the parts are going to cost.

I suppose I have mixed feelings about the whole situation. I love my contour, love the look of it (before the drunken A** hit it) , loved the way it drove, ect... but now that it has been hit, I kinda just want it totaled, because I don't want to deal with any problems that "may" occur somewhere down the road.

We'll see what happens though. I will find out "for sure" within two days. In the mean time, I'm still looking at other cars, and have been doing a little research on some of the ones you all have posted.

Once again, thanks for the replies. You guys are great!

IF the body shop is good it may be better than it was before the accident... A guy I use to work with his younger brother had a 99 contour that he wrapped around a tree he was close to having it totaled but it eeked in as not totaled and he said he would sell it as soon as he got it back that was in 1999 he still has it today, he was more than impressed with the body shops job of fixing the frame and basicly replacing the whole passenger side of the car, you would never guess that it was in an accident.

2003 Subaru WRX some mods Even if you don't have the answer, you certainly have to admire the problem. aka ZetecRacing
