Why the hell would the Mondeo be listed amongst all those other cars.

The Mondeo might be a great car, but I don't think it's worthy of mentioning in an article of the "coolest cars not available in the US"

DITTO. Actually, they always had Taurus-like car in Europe, which was Ford Scorpio. They started making Mondeos after they stopped making Sierras.

Also, "Driving space is limited in most European countries and, as a result, most cars are much smaller."

Well, then they must have something for our big parkingless cities as NYC, etc. All them Renaults and Peugeots Citroens...
