Feels strange to say, but my 98 SVT and I parted ways tonight. It was hard watching it drive off, mufflers growling. But I'll be cruising the streets in a different kind of machine now. I'm the proud owner of a black on black, 2002 VW Passat W8 4-Motion.

I learned a lot about cars with my SVT, and I'll have nothing but good things to say about my years of ownership. I'll get a picture up here after I give it the initial hand washing.

The W8 Passat will be no more when the new 2005 Passat comes out. The W8 Passat was a "preview" of sorts for the "W" engine and the upcoming W12 powered Phaeton

Yeah, the W12 Phaeton is already out, one is sitting on the floor of the VW dealership here in Dallas. In fact, the guy that traded my Passat back in did so for a Phaeton. Not sure if he got the 8-cyl or the 12-cyl. Almost $90K fully loaded!

Man, what a sweet machine! I can't wait to take her for a spin. Hmm.... I wonder how it would do in autocross?

It remains to be seen if people will pay 90K for a VW.
