Recently got a used 95 SE with, you guessed it, a broken cup holder. I believe I read somewhere that the replacement cup holder Ford sells is of a revised design that can hold bigger cups, and bottles vs. the original.
I have the remains of the original, and if the replacement is no better, it would not be worth getting, because I tend to get 20 oz. soda bottles and 24 oz. coffee cups when I buy drinks. The original would hold neither.
Anyone know if the replacement ones will hold bigger containers?

hurry EBAY buy! Cup holderCurrent bid $61.99 and Bill Jenkins has them for $50. DOH! I got a holder for my large cups from Walmart for $3. Slides in-between the window and door molding, works great!

I replaced my double cupholders with the single one from the dealer. It will hold a 20 oz. bottle, but the rubber "fingers" around the inside allow a 20 oz. to tip slightly at an angle. Okay as long as you keep the cap on between gulps. Medium size cups from Micky-Dees and BK are no problem. I envy those with the 98+ dual holders under the radio.

I am 99% sure that some Ford vehicle (Taurus, maybe) came with a pop-out cupholder that fit in place of the DIN pocket. I wonder if this would work on the Contours that have the lower DIN pocket, or if it would interfere with the shifter.

Not so fast. Sure, there are two, but neither of them are deep enough to keep a cup/bottle in it when taking corners.. not to mention that since there's no ash tray, I have to use one of the holders for change..

I thought there was an aftermarket device to provide deeper holes. My wife has to use a hokie holder that hangs on the side of the door panel. It stays in the glove box when not in use. The first time she tried it, I accidently started to put up the window on her side and holder and all fell off the door. My change stays in a little holder I fastened to the inside of the left cubby below the light switch.

You may be thinking of the 2000 Contour cupholder upgrade. It is a black moulded plastic thing that sets into the existing cupholder holes and makes the cupholders deeper. It is a great upgrade that fits all 98 plus Contiques. It seems like it was priced at something less than $25.00. Check with Bill Jenkins.
