I have a 96 Zetec, and when i try to reach 4000 rpm's it feels like my car wants to stop, like the rev. limitor is happening, except i'm not doing 120 yet, more like 50, if that. Has anyone have any idea what's going on?
I cleaned the MAFS and the throttle body and the IAC. Feels real good now except when i reach 4000 rpm's. Also had a diag. test done, no codes. And i tested the EGR valve. Had the injectors cleaned and balanced, and changed the fuel filter.
96 tour, Zetec

The two highest things on my suspect list would be lack of fuel (plugged fuel filter or weak fuel pump) and plugged exhaust. The most common thing for plugged exhuast on your Zetec would be a failed cat in the exhaust mainfold.
The Zetec does not have IMRC.

Is your car auto or stick. If auto, the gear position switch may be bad and the PCM thinks ou are in neutral or park. That would cause the RPM limiter to kick in.
Are your shifts hard? that would indicate the position switch too.

And the fuel filter?
A fuel pressure test is in order to see if you are encountering fuel starvation under heavy demand.
