i just got finished with putting the atx back in my car and the power steering doesn't work..... there aren't any leaks, the pump is working and it is full on fluid....my question is....if the fluid lines on the steering gear itself are backwards can it cause this problem? like the return line in the pressure line slot on the steering gear. and vice versa...and could this cause any probs? 95 tour 2.5 atx

new info.......i replaced the 2 pump lines. they are in correctly. when the RPM of the car goes past 1500 it steers fine. There is a winding noise from the pump itself, like a low fluid or air noise at all times. The haynes book said to bleed the line with a vacuum pump like Ford does. attach the pump to the resevoir, ect. where can i get the adapter for a hand held pump to the resevoir? Or is the pump out? and if so, how can i tell?

I would try jacking both front tires in the air to take the weight off of the tires, crank the engine, and turn the steering wheel back and forth, back and forth, etc several times. If the problem is air in the system, hopefully this will bleed the air out.

Your symptom is still of air in the system unless you have pinched or kinked a PS fluid line.

If the easy bleeding procedure is not effective, you will have to perform the vacuum-assisted purge of the PS system. Instructions for this procedure are located in the service manual.

Had the fluid lines been reversed at the rack, the most likely result would have been the rack would have slammed violently to one side immediately when the engine started.
