Did a search on oil leak and there was way to much to read.
My Wifes 96 Zetec with only 80000 km (50000 miles) leaks in the center front of the engine. Been doing small drops during the night for a while, but seems to be a larger drip now when the car sits overnight.
Any sudjestions. Is this bad news in the long run?

My leak on the front center of the engine was from the valve cover gasket. Replaced it and all is well.

Thanks Jim, I was leaning towards that myself. Did you do it yourself, if so was it a big job? Any advice?

I replaced the gasket myself with a little guidance from the shop manual. The gasket I bought from a local Ford dealer is actually a large, pre-formed O-ring which fits in a groove in the valve cover. It was pretty straightforward, no real surprises. Just tighten the bolts down gradually from center to outside in what is referred to as "standard sequence" so that nothing warps and you get a good fit. I paid $23.04 US (including 5% sales tax) for the gasket. I also used the opportunity to give the outside of the valve cover a good cleaning while it was off the engine.
I'll try sending you a PM with a picture.

Just one word of advice: don't use any kind of glue/gasket maker when you position the new gasket in. It's not necessary and it'd be a hell next time to remove the remnants of the seal.
Also, if the engine leaks at the valve cover gasket, it can be a sign of increased blowby/crankcase pressure. Just for good measure, get the PCV valve replaced by the dealer. They should do it for free (your car is below 60K mi) and it's a PITA to do it yourself.
