I just bought an Sony Xplod cd reveiver and had it installed at ABC Warehouse. I'm happy with the receiver but I'm questioning they way they installed it. They used the aftermarket harness to wire into the back of the receiver, but they didn't use a bypass for the factory amp at all. It's still plugged in like it was with the stock headunit. Is this incorrect?

Also, now when I turn the volume down all the way there is a static hum that can be heard from the speakers, almost like some type of interrference. Any ideas on what this is and how to get rid of it? Thanks a lot for your help.

If your SVT has the 'premium sound' option and you are sure they didn't use any kind of bypass harness then I would take your car back to them and raise a little hell(not much, just a little). Not bypassing that amp could seriously damage it. The noise you hear may be related to the un-bypassed amp...not sure though so don't qoute me. Hope this helps.

mine is just a 95 but i installed a Panasonic MXE DFX 77, a high powered head unit and just ran it through the factory amp with no problems. ( i have premium sound ) but if there is ANY hum i'd take it back that is not normal no matter what they say!

Took it back today. They had to rewire in order to bypass the stock amp. Aparently it uses a different input/output connection and the regular Ford amp bypass kit will not plug in. Works great now. Time to save up for a subwoofer now...
