Had my replaced two weeks ago it snapped on me on the way to work cost $600 for belt, idler pulleys, and tensioner pulley

at 105,000 km (65,000 miles) replaced belt, tensior & pullies + H2O pump = $450


99 Sport SE - Zetec Mods: My wife vacuumed it last spring , my son wiped up his hot chocolate spill in December. My daughter found the tooth she lost last week .

I have the exact same problem, you nailed it! Good to know, When the car warms up the chatter goes away. Car only has 80000km (50000 miles) kinda low for a timing belt?

Search doesn't work right now, but I faintly recall posts
about a revised upper timing belt cover to fix this problem
(I guess they just made it taller). Ask about it at the dealer.

According to Ford, you don't have to replace the timing
belt just because of this. I'd put those washers in though
(or the revised cover if it exists) for the peace of mind.
Removing the cover also works fine if you're into ghetto
looks.
