Why do you need to replace it? It's very rare that they need to be replaced.

Quite simple actually. I had to replace mine, it literally fell apart. Remove belt, and use torx socket to remove center bolt. cost is around 50 dollars from dealer.

The dealer replaced the belt tensioner under warranty on my '95 Contour because it was noisy, at about 23,000 miles.

I have to replace the belt tensioner on my '88 Mustang, at 154,000 miles, because it doesn't turn freely, like it has bad bearings.

Because the Belt slips on it and my Charging System Light comes on when I am at high RPM's. For some reason it is not tightening the belt to the right tension.
