Do you have a system in there or something to make your lights dim? if you have a system eater fix your ground on your battery like take a 4 gage wire or something around that size and make it as short as you can and take and run it off the neg of battery and ground it on your car more so that the neg can get back to the battery better or if you are running a system that is really powerful then you may want to just buy a compasator or something i have had 2 altnadors go out on me then i did some asking around and checking on the net and well i have had no problems sence then. if you have any other questions then just respond.

at higher rpms my lights dim and the battery light faintly flashes, did it before the 3L, and it still does it now!

while the engine was out, i ahd the alternator tested by a shop that rebuilds them, they said it was fine

also, i do have a system, but it does it even with it off

i was on an open highway at night, high beams on, punched the gas, redlined it, the lights got really dim

id like to know whats wrong

Symptoms of a failing voltage regulator.

They can still bench test fine because they never get hot and overly vibrated like when driving.

{side note}
A poor alternator can make you run rich because the ignition system is not firing at it's full capacity.

May also be the belt slipping at high RPM's. Check the pulley on the alt. for wear. I assume you put belt and checked tensioner during 3L swap.

But FWIW, my lights dim at low RPM's and flicker a little at high RPM's.
I have an extended wtty and I figured it will fail soon. The car has 69000 miles on it now and still hasn't failed. Weird. If it failed now I will get if fixed for $50. If it fails after 100k miles, I will eat the entire cost. Of course, the dealer won't fix it now because the voltage is in range, but max high at medium RPM and max low at idle and high RPM. The flickering is darn annoying though. I may eat it and replace the alternator anyway.
