My buddy just bought an 85 Volkswagon Rabbit with a 1.8t and an upgraded stage 1 turbo kit. Who do you think will win my stock SVT or him? I tell him I will all the time. he doesn't think so.
'98 Contour SVT (silver)
Flip trunk, Pioneer head unit and 4-way 6x8s,working on shaving trunk of reflector and reverse lights, finishing subwoofer box, molding side skirts into car. No power mods.

No such thing as an 1.8t motor in 1985
1.8L SOHC (85HP) & 1.6L Turbo Diesel (50HP)
I would not be afriad of either. Even if someone stuck a turbo on the 1.8L SOHC and it "doubled" it's output.
...or are you saying he swapped in a late model 1.8t engine???
If the latter then I would be worried. The 1.8t does make very peaky power, but good numbers and the rabbit is a feather weight car as well.

one day up at the track, there was some guy with a rabbit running mid-low 13s i got a chance to talk to him, he had some random motor built from various VW engines, it spewed out oil from 1 spot, he ahd a plastic bottle rigged to catch it, after runs he would sump the bottle back in the engine  but the impressive thing was, he made his own turbo kit for it, HORRIBLY ghetto, but yes, it worked pretty good. i believe he said he was running like 16 or 18 lbs of boost to top it off, the body was in horrible shape, full of rust, tons of dents, etc it also had a homemade roll cage talk about a sleeper!

No offense, but seeing as a stock '03 1.8T is comparable to a stock SVT, a much lighter '85 with mods should eat you for breakfast.

A VW Rabbit? Those suck..... Tiny peices of trash, I hadto drive one once, floored the gas and i was going about 30... I Would think my stock Contour GL would smoke it...
