i posted on here a few weeks ago about wanting to buy a digital camera, and last week i ordered the sony dsc-v1 (5 mp, 4x opt. zoom, zeiss lens, etc.) and got it yesterday. i looked at the canon S50 and a few others but my heart was set on the V1 - for some reason i just liked that camera a lot from the first time i saw one in best buy or circuit city or something. good size, good features, and based on all the reviews i've read, good performance and value.
so, i bit the bullet and ordered one last week (pcnation.com, $517 w/ free shipping when i ordered on friday morning). the fedex man got it to my door by yesterday afternoon, just in time to play with it over the Christmas holidays before i have to use it "fo' real" at the detroit auto show in january.
one question i have: i'm obviously going to need more than the single 32mb memory stick that it came with, but before i rush out and buy a 128mb or 256mb card, is there any quality difference between the different memory stick manufacturers? i think i've read that there are 4 different brands - sony, sandisk, i-o media or something like that, and maybe one more. for the most part, they seem to be priced similarly, but is it worth the extra $5 or whatever to get an actual sony one, or are any of the others just as good for a few bucks less?
i'm probably going to try to pick up an extra battery as well, since it supposedly only has, at best, an hour and a half of battery life....might not be enough for something like the NAIAS.
anyway - thanks to those who made recommendations in my previous post! i'm looking forward to using my V1....seems really nice from my piddling around with it last night.
