My Contour has made this sound for over a year. It is coming from under the car, up front....The Rax??? The PS fluid has never been changed but is full and never leaked.

The moosing sound or hooting sound happens when I turn the wheel as I pull into a drive way or a street. happens more if the turn is off center or up hill a bit. This sound will disappear for a month at a time and then come back. Worse in the cold weather. But right now it is silent....go figure.

Any Idea????

Yes, I just fixed my moosing problem(see replacing my IAC valve link immediately prior to your).

Welcome to CEG!

I recommend you go ahead and change the PS fluid.

Use a good PS fluid and not ATX fluid.

Make sure the fluid is up to the line, if not slightly above.

Best results are to drain reservoir, fill, run a couple days, and repeat.

Sounds like you have air in the PS system somewhere. IIRC, you can purge the air by turning the wheel all the way until it stops and hold it for a second. Then do the same thing in the other direction. You should go ahead and change the fluid since its in need of it anyways. You may want to search on the subject of fluids. I recall hearing of some bad experiences with using PS fluid instead of ATX fluid.

Roger and Jason,

I will replace the fluid right away. Jason, do you think that while driving around I could have turned the wheels enough to bleed the air out and that is why it comes and goes? If so, the air leak will return after I flush and fill with ATX or whatever may search comes up with, right? Any I idea on how to track down an air leak.

Sounds like its not a big problem....I was getting the 4 sale sign's out!

Its most likely that you dont have a leak. You can get air in your PS just by hitting a bump too hard. Its happened to me before. I doubt you could have released the air just by driving around.
