I have checked behind the glovebox for the premium sound amp and it doesnt appear to be in there? Doesnt look like the image in the service manual?
It says STEREO on the door speakers but not premium sound so?
Anyone know?

I guess you bought it used and do not have the spec sheet that came with the car? One site said it would say "premium" on the speakers, but I think mine says sereo even though it is premium. The amp is above the floor light that would be right above the passengere's right knee.
Hopefully someone will answer who knows the answer.

If it says "Premium Sound" on the front door speaker grills, you have Premium Sound. Pretty simple, is it not?

There really isn't much difference in sound at low volume levels. But once you get past about 1/2, the bass disappears unless you have Premium Sound.

Other than that, they both sound like ****.

My SVT has premium sound...It says STEREO on the speaker grills.

They probably saved money in later years by not bothering with having the two different door panel lettering.

My '98 SE has the so-called "Premium" sound system, but my door panels only say "Stereo". There is an external amplifier behind the glove box. Don't feel bad because you don't have this option. It's a waste of money because the external amp is only good for maybe 10W RMS per channel at a very high distortion level.
