Hey guys how the heck do you get the factory radio out? I ordered a Pioneer head unit DEH-p4100 from crutchfield. They did send the din tool but it will not go in. I have a 99SVTtour.

If it is the same radio that was in my 96 GL. What you can do is take a coat hangar and cut it in 2 peices and the take each piece and make into a "U" shape. Then you can take the coat hangars and put in the 4 holes in the corner of the stereo and it shoudl unlock. Then unplug it and put the new one in. I am not sure if you have done this or not, but you need to get a wiring harness for your new stereo so that you can just plug directly in the ford stereo cables.

Just my $.02

Contiques seem to be the only ford product that has problems with the din tools. My old 98 Mystique and my 2000 SVT both were stuck in the opening, and wouldn't come out no matter what I did with the din tools. I ended up having to remove the trim panel on both of them and removing the reciever after pulling it out.

What I did is I used the coat hangers method and broke one side loose at a time instead of trying to get both sides loose at the same time. Then once you do that you should be able to wigle the radio out.

Don't feel bad, it happened to me also. On of the clips holding the stock radio was not installed correctly and so the removal tool was useless. I ended up taking the radio apart, bit by bit until I could see. A lot of wedging os screwdrivers and cursing. scratched the surrounding dash a touch, not too bad.

Okay the coat hanger trick usually works at least better than the little key you gan buy. Anyway when you get the hangers in place pull outward, away from the center of the stereo and the out. This should help.
