My clutch pedal will totally 'deflate' on long freeway rides. I mean, you'll go to engage it, and it'll drop almost all the way to the floor with no resistance. It takes alot of pumping to get it to come back up again. it feels just like pumping up your brake pedal.
Has anyone else had this problem? I know the contours have hydraulic clutches, but can we add fluid, or is it more likely a leaking clutch cable?

I had the same problem on my wife's Focus and they replaced the master cylinder on the clutch under warranty.

The clutch and brakes share the same fluid reservoir.
My experience is that this is caused by heat affecting water in the system.

Flushing out the system with new fluid will usually fix the problem. Both the brakes and clutch have to be bled, this is not difficult unless you let air into the system, then it can become a PITA.

The clutch and brakes share fluid and a reservoir? I dont really think thats right, are you sure about that? Anyone out there have a chilton's guide that could confirm that?

yea, they share it. this is what happened to me before my clutch went, but I also had problems with the shifter. my master cylinder and clutch died at the same time, so I'd check on that master cylinder. but go ahead and bleed the systems and put in new fluids first.
