I'm going to try and close a deal on a five speed MTX 2000 Lincoln LS. Anyone own one?
I know Chris H. has a V8, but the stick was really nice to drive. Almost reminded me of the
CSVT, except bigger and with more sophistication. :-)

And slower...

I looked into buying a 2002 V6 5-speed to replace my SVT and was dissapointed. They need to put a stick with the 8 and I would have probably bought one. Good thing that shifter/trans was so nice because you'll be using it a lot to get any power out of it. Same throttle hang and 3800rpm kick (although not as strong) as the SVT. Steering, ride, hnadling all great, though. Maybe look into Hightower's turbo for it though.

FWIW, if you want an LS with a stick shift, buy it soon. Sales volumes have been very low, so don't be surprised if it doesn't hang around much longer.

Uh, my friend had an LS V6 and his clutch went at 40K miles. That probably had something to do with the way he drove it, but still- even with a leaden right foot I would expect it to last a little longer.

If I could get a good deal on it though, I'd still buy one though. Just ignore the horrible panel gaps in the interior

Something that is really surprising is just how well the V6 Automatic runs. Many drivers would not know that they were driving a 6 cylinder car if they were not told.

That said though, one of the reasons that the LS runs so well with either engine is because of the 5 speed automatic. Once at full throttle and in the power curve, the ratios are so close that the engine stays in the best part of the power curve. Personally, I don't think that the stick runs any better, if as well. I must admit that I have not driven the stick nearly as much as the automatic.

Yes, I would prefer a V8, but I would advise anyone who is thinking of an LS to drive both and decide for themselves.

Thanks for the info, guys! I am trying to finalize a deal on the car. It only has 19,300 miles on it and is 2.5 years old (only 5 months of warranty left). I drove the V8, and that is a smoother engine, but it is also lacking a stick. I kind of miss the stick I had in the CSVT and wanted to get it in the LS for the fun factor. The auto in my Sable is so boring. :-)

If I close on this car, I'll post back a more detailed response. But it is quicker than an auto V6. Plus, if you follow the auto mags you'll know that Ford has had trouble with the ATX in the V8 LS.

I have had great luck with my LS8 Sport. The tranny is fairly firm, but I know a TC locker would help out. We drove a V6 and it was VERY lacking in power. I bet a turbo or Vortech would liven things up on the LS6. Granatelli is supposedly making a TT kit for the 8.

When you close on it, see if you can get them to put the Borla exhaust on it and roll that into the financing. That's good for about 8-10HP.

Get the extended warranty, too. Just good sense with an MTX.

Also, what color is it? int/ext? Is it Sport?
