I have about 81,000 miles on my car and I'm running Valvoline Durablend 5W 30 (a syntheticly blended oil). I have heard that after about 75,000 miles it's a good idea to switch to an oil like Valvolines Max Life to help restore and protect the engine. Do you think there is any advantage to one of these "higher milage oils" or no?

The high miles oils are thicker IIRC. The idea is to prevent leaks on your gaskets or pass the rings on the pistons, which by now they may have some wear on the cylinder.

I will recommend you the Valvoline website with more info on this topic.

If you don't leak or burn oil, you don't need the MaxLife. Its intended for people who have not cared for their vehicles very well.

I used regular oil, not synthetic, on my 92 Topaz and added this silver/black/red can of Engine restorer. The car only have 45k on it, but the stuff made the car a lot smoother. A buddy used the same stuff on his 2.2l Sunfire which has 80k on it and it also had the same results. I only have 35k miles on my 95 engine and 45k on the 99 so I dunno how well it works on the Duratecs. Anyone have any experience with this product?

You may want to check out my Group Buy on extended drain interval synthetics for some hints on oil change intervals.

The "stuff" your referring to is Restore and its pretty good for reducing oil consumpiton in higher mileage engines It comes in 4,6 and 8 cylinder formulas, but I'd just go with the biggest can of it, thats my opinion

If you're engine is in bad conditon, I'm sure the max life could help. Personally I used mobil1 at close to 100k miles. I did the change to mobil1 at ~83k miles, so my engine wasn't even using the good stuff it's whole life,,, in fact is was probably using 10w-30 and the car is spec'd for 5w-30... But I don't have problems now and I like the mobil1.
