I have a 96 contour LX Sport with the V-6 Automatic. I finally got it all lined out and was wondering what kind of fuel mileage to expect, lets say highway? How many miles can I get out of a tank of fuel?
Thanks
Blaze
Oh it has 90,000 miles on it

It's been a while since I had my '95 (v-6 ATX) , but I'd say for a real-world estimate , expect to get about 25/26 mpg city driving & about 32 mpg highway . As for mileage on a tankful (highway , on a trip) you'll get about 325 miles before you'll need to look for a gas station , and around town mileage per tank ... usually much less , maybe about 250 ) .

I'd say that is overly optimistic. Those numbers look more like what you would get with a Zetec. With a V-6, I think low 20's in the city and mid-20's on the highway would be more realistic.

Those numbers are pretty well right on to the best of my memory . I know for a fact that I got over 30 mpg on the highway & well into the 300's per tank (I distinctly remember not even worrying about filling the tank till 325) . Heck , I get 30 mpg highway with my SVT ! City driving was a little off with the '95 SE , but not that much . City/kicking around driving with the SVT is a different story , but that's because of my lead foot . I remember getting 350 miles out of a tank in the SE on one trip to my pop's in Georgia . As long as you don't whoop on it every waking moment , there's no reason you can't get that kinda mileage (or close) .

Y2K is not far off. In Florida I get about 24 MPG combined driving, but I have a heavy foot, and the gas is crappy, or the humidity is to high, or the roads are too soft, or sup'm. Its just been crappy down here.
I took a trip to the Dragon in October & I was getting 28 MPG with HARD driving though the Tennessee hills (Yaaaa-Hooo!!). I got near 34 MPG highway on my first leg back. The gas was better, air thinner, road harder, or sup'm. I just don't understand why my fuel economy is so bad here, but I'm glad to know that the car is fine as demonstrated by the road trip.
I can confirm this tendency because in March I bought my car from a dealer in Georgia. The first leg home on that trip I got 33 MPG. The mileage dropped to 23 MPG around town when I filled up in Florida.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

My dad used to get around 34 on all highway driving (somewhere around 400 miles on a tank), cruise set at 74mph. We've been getting 23-25 on very short trips around town. Winter mileage is always worse as they change the fuel mix so that it has less potential energy (which isn't needed in fuel injected cars...
