Quick poll for my next mod, my last was 18" wheels but i have 78K miles on the stock suspension.

All opinions welcome but those who have both I would assume have the best input, which gave you more pleasure?

Our cars look really tall if you have wheels with a non lowered suspension... Exactly the reason my car is lowered with stock wheels... Don't get me wrong, I will have 17's on the car next spring but I had to lower it before I did that... Exhaust can come later

considering all of your mods in the sig are "SHOW" (with exception of KKM..)

I would go with the exhaust, to give it a little more "umpfh"... I mean.. larger rims have got to be heavier.. wouldn't you rather be able to actually MOVE them, than be lower and still "heavy"?

(NOTE: Obviously, this is not intended to offend anyone with 17/18 rims.. Also, this is not intended to belittle a cars ability to move such rims.. Merely speaking vaguely...)

It comes down to this: Do you want all show, and no go? or a mixture of both, or all go?

I vote for exhaust, next... not as big of a deal, quicker to do, and won't "set you back" as much, nor for as long, until you can do the springs..

I vote for suspension only because I know how ugly my car is with 17s on stock ride height

I voted for the suspension because I too am finally doing this, but I only have 47K and its loooooong over due If your exhaust is 100% stock and you want something to "tie you over", remove the resonater and replace it with a straight pipe or cherry bomb (the cherry bomb has been done by a couple CEG-ers, do the search and check it out ) Just an FYI about exhaust systems and the Contour. I have the "mystery mod", Magnaflow X-pipe, Magnaflow resonaters and Magnaflow race mufflers for an exhaust, all connected to a custom true dual system w/ 2 1/4" piping. My last dyno had me pulling 168 hp and that was with a drop-in K&N at the time and all other Tours there were in the area of 164-166 hp and all they had done was maybe a removed resonater and/or mufflers, thats it. So what I'm saying, IMO, is the exhaust should be done if you want to improve the sound because its not really adding to the hp unless you need it (i.e. 3.0L/S/C/turbo) Thats my .02 cents worth

Thanks guys, i appreciate all the opinions. There wasnt too much said that I didnt already consider. Im lookin for a nice balance between "show" and "go" while keeping my car maintained to keep me happy with it. The poll seems to be leaning towards suspension so i guess thats what itll be. I dont consider suspension 100% show because i have to believe the handling performance has to improve a bit. Over the holidays Id been driving my moms 2002 BMW 325i and I just love the feel. I dont know if our cars are capable of that type of ride but at least new springs and struts are a start.

I thought about doing something to hold me over with the exhaust but i havent had much luck with finding someone that will do what i want. I was hoping to find someone to do the improved Y-pipe mod but the exhaust shops i found dont wanna touch anything in front of the cat (legal purposes). And 60-70 bucks to cut out my resonator is money wasted since i dont think I wouldnt like the sound and id eventually get a cat-back system. May as well just save that money to pay for the shipping or something. In the mean time maybe ill improve the throttle body, replace the KKM filter with a K&N and make a cool air dam...hopefuly thatll hold me over.

Please keep the comments coming though, maybe someone else it fight with similar decisions and can benefit from this.

So off to the suspension forum I go.....

If you want an optimized y pipe, I just replaced mine with one. So I have a stock 2 bolt y pipe up for grabs if you want to ship it to Brad Noon for optimization at the tune of $100. He also does optimized TBs so you might as well have him do one at the same time and save on shipping. That's what I just did, now I'm waiting for the TB gasket from the dealership. They gave me the wrong one today. What part of SVT don't they understand!!
