I've had this problem last year and its starting this year to. i live in chicago so it gets cold and sometimes in the cold my car starts but cant keep ideling. i have to hold the gas down for a while in order to warm it up and then after a while it keeps its RPM's. if i let the gas go it shuts off. sometimes i floor it a couple times and it works right away, other times it takes a while. this doesnt happen often. could it be the throttle position switch? any ideas? after the car is warm this problem doesnt occur, something must be stuck.

There is a good chance that this is just a stuck IAC.

Try cleaning it.

Do you have the TH fix installed? If not, the above post about IAC cleaning is likely right on target.

I have a question about this too. For those folks who live in the colder climates, does the TH fix affect your cold weather idle?

Seems to me that a restriction like a small hole in a copper cap would limit the IACs ability to compensate for cooler outside temperatures & hamper idle at startup. That said, if you have the classic TH fix installed, try removing it & use the 3' length of coiled 1/2" hose to keep the moose at bay.

For less than $5.00 in tubing & an easy 10 minute install, its worth a try IMHO - if you have the copper cap.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
