A few days ago I noticed that my 1995 Mystique (104K) started stalling on a semi-regular basis. When I sit at a light or just stop, the idle fluctuates a bit and then just stalls. The car starts up right away and drives fine. What could this be? Fuel filter? Fuel pump?

As far as I know, the plugs/wires have never been changed, so perhaps it's time for a tuneup.

The idle in my car use to jump around at stop lights and signs too... I changed my O2 sensors and it hasn't done it since... Could also be the TB needs to be cleaned...

I have a similar problem with my contour. I've noticed it only when running the A/C on very hot days. It has stalled as I roll to a stop about half a dozen time. Alarmingly, it also stalled as I was downshifting (not fast enough, it seems) before a slow (~20 mph) corner with traffic behind me. luckily, I was able to get it restarted before I got rear ended. I haven't had a chance to replace the O2 sensor yet, and I'm sure my TB is very dirty - I rev the engine to within 500 rpm of redline daily. My car has 62K miles.

I may be comparing apples to oranges here, but I had a '94 Probe with 130K on it that did the same thing. Turned out that it was the IAC motor, not the O2 sensor. Since Mazda parts are ludicrously priced, I traded it in for my 'tour, which pulls the same crap at 60K... on rare occasions, fortunately.

The other people I've spoken to have mentioned the O2 sensor, so perhaps that's it. I dropped it off at my mechanic so I'll find out soon enough. Hopefully that's it. The problem just sprang up out of nowhere. And as I mentioned, it runs just fine when the gears are engaged (manual tranny).

Pardon my ignorance, but what is "TB"?
