Check for a vaccum leak. Either that or it just could be the way the car sucks in air. It does operate on a vacuum system, as all combustion engines do, so it is constantly drawing in air on it's own... it's hard to explain, but if the configuration is just right, you will hear a high pitched noise from the induction system. As long as the car is not running rough, it should be ok. My friend thought she had a bad bearing in her Firebird because of a low pitched rumble that she had never heard before.... took the airbox loose while it was running and the noise got worse... using our ears it wasnt hard to figure out that it was the induction system. HTH.

well, i called a local radio show that takes questions like this. They said it is part of a recall of the idle air control valve. Anyone know more about this, so i can go to the dealer with ammo.

it is referred to as the "moose". i remember there being a tsb on this but not a recall on it. Ford quoted me about $120 (@$70 for the IAC and less than 1 hr lbr), as my car is no longer under warranty. The popular way to fix this is the TH fix listed above and the copper plug will cost y aless than $.25.
