Heys guys, I need a little input from the Duratec gods. Do you guys think that there would be any benefit from doing full head work (ala kinger) and using these heads on a 2.5. I know that this is a not a cheap mod but are the benefits worth it. TIA Rob

do you plan on a turbo or a 3L down the road?

i think the 3L valves would be a bit overkill for anything less than a heavily modded 2.5

if you do plan on a 3L or a turbo someday, then id say go for iT!

As long as you don't overdue it, porting always helps. That is part of what helps the SVT run so good. The extrude honing process is essentually a method for a mild port and polish to the intake manifold and in the case of the SVT to the intake ports as well. The 98 only does the secondary port of the head while the 99 and 00 does both intake ports.

I have ported several heads in my life, none recently. It has always made a significant difference. If I ever decide to do significant modifications to my engine, the heads will be ported.

I'm no expert, but as Jim says, a mild port and polish usually helps any engine. I don't think the $1400 would be worth it on the n/a though, you probably would not see more than 10-15 hp from it, if that (just a guesstimate). ask kinger what the gains are expected to be for your application. Stuff for our cars is too darn expensive! I'm gonna go buy a Honda or a Mustang, see ya later.

Hey guys, I have just done this to my N/A 2.5L. Read my post in this section, 'dyno results are in!'. It might be able to provide some useful info.

Yeah the P&P is only part of it. Do you think that 3.0 valves would be a benefit also. I would love to do a turbo down the road. I think that I'll have a 3L during the summer. The car is going into hibernation soon. I have alot of bolt-ons for the winter months to keep me busy. I was just wondering about the headwork though. Could this be something that could help me on the way to 200 whp on a 2.5 svt........

if you are gonna have the 3L then i do recommend getting the 3L valves fitted to the heads you would be kicking yourself if you get a PnP now, without 3L valves and do a 3L swap in the summer

I've had the work done and am very pleased, however, remember to factor in the labour (big re/re job), downtime and the fact that need new gaskets ($$$$) and other misc parts.

honestly, if your gonna do this, i suggest doing a 3L at the same time, it will be wasted money, and LOTS of work to put them on teh 2.5L just to do a 3L a few months from now

Dan Canuck, In an honest estimation what do you think that you gained from the headwork. Also if you had to do it all over would you? Russell3L, the 3.0 would be a fun project no doubt. I would for sure go the high compression route. (one of the benefits of living in Maine very mild summers) I am also considering running a direct port n02 on this high compression 3.0. I think it could be a good set-up. Keep the input coming. I need the input. Thanks Rob
