My car (MTX, 2.5 98.5)tries to shutdown while driving, if its in gear, and engaged, it just jerks, the wipers turn on for a sec and the abs light comes on. if i am not engaged, it simply stalls out. I think this may be due to a bad battery, which may be caused by my amp (1200w) and i dont have a farad cap. If my battery is dying, could this happen?

Sounds like a battery problem to me too. Especially with the wipers coming on. That happened to me when my battery was going.

i disagree, if its hurting your electrical system, you need a high output alternator, a cap has to be charged, and is only gonna put more strain on your alternator. it may seem to smooth out the already weak system. your lights may stay continuously dim, unstead of dimming to the bass. trust me u need a HO alternator. don't buy a cap, it'll make your problems worse. it may seem to work great for a while, but if you run a high power stereo like this for long enough, your going to seriously screw your electrical system. you may just need a battery, i havent heard of the wipers cutting on, but seriously, you do not need a capacitator.

BATTERY.
My wipers were nuts when my battery was out. Go to autozone and have your battery checked for free.
And as for your system, get a cap and hook up a 2nd battery. PM me on how to have two batteries going. Alternator is too much trouble, and Ive seen FAR more powered amps in a mystique with stock alternator. Its a waste of time to put in another alternator.

Stock alternator is like 150-ish amps anyway, which is relatively high, as it is...
not HO, but by no means "barely there" or weak...
I'd get a new battery, and yes.. get a cap, just don't get ONLY a cap... and not a battery fix..
What he says is true.. if its a bad battery , then a cap will seem to help... SEEM....

the cap is only as good as the battery that gives it voltage, all it does is eliminate getting all that voltage to the amp through the wires right away, it will still pull the same watts from the battery just not really fast. get a new battery and the cap. i say get a ho alt. more expensive but more reliable, in my $.02
