I've posted this problem b4 but no one responded. My A/C compressor is not turning on when I try to use it. I suspect a relay or something else electrical. Any ideas?
1998 Contour Sport V6, Black *Cold air induction *Powdercoated intake manifold (more powdercoating coming soon) *Blue headlights, foggies, and signals (no reflectors) *CEG stickers & removed door moldings -------------------------------- 1994 Ford Aspire 4-door, looks like a big egg *64 hp 4-cyl *5 speed *"13 steel rims with go-cart tires *74 mph top speed *I'm going to auto-x the thing (but not compete)

You have got several possiblities here. One your system could be low in charge, and if it is too low for the low pressure switch, then the compressor won't engage until the evaporator pressure rises. Another possibility is your clutch gap is not adjusted properly on your compressor. The third possibility I can think of is a relay/fuse or something has blown and is not allowing current to the compressor clutch so it can engage. I would check the fuses/relays for the A/C and if they are ok, have the gap checked and the system charge. Anybody else who has any ideas please input as I am not a mechanic. Hope this helps.

Glad I was able to help a little. Its not likly unless you had some kind of problems before. Have you ever had it worked on or charged? If it hasn't made strange noises/sqeaking, and you had no previous leaks or performance problems, then it is mosly likly ok. Let me know what you find out.

I had the same problem it was the heater blower motor ford wanted 128.00 to fix it but i bought the part for 47.00 and my husband put it in not knowing what he was doing but he figured it out, its under the dash in the passenger side and not hard to do

The usual failure mode for compressors seems to be for them to lock up.
Believe me you'll know if this is the case...either the belt will break or the engine will stall with the AC on.
And the bad thing about Ford's compressors is that when they do lock up, they usually distribute bits of crap ALL OVER the system. It's called "black death" (do a google search for "black death" ford compressor and use the quotes).
