my car was purchased with the "smoking kit" or whatever it's called.
thankfully it was never used.
it consisted of the lighter of which you spoke and a cylindrical ashtray that fits snuggly in the cup holder. I have mine if you would like to buy it. :-)
i also have one that came with the "upgraded" cupholders which i think suck but that's another story.
under my stereo there is a spot where it is clearly missing something, there are screw retainers and slots where posts would fit such that something could hang there. but i can't recall what goes there, nor if my car was supposed to have it.
i recall seeing pictures of cars with lighters and what appeared to be an ashtray that slides out like a drawer right under their head unit.
off i go in search of pictures....

The ashtray in post 1998's was removable, fits in the cupholder. If bought used, it went bye bye before you owned it.

I said it before and I know it sounds funny, but I use an Altoids tin for the change. The case fits perfectly underneath the e-brake and is removable for when you want bring it in the house and sort out all those pennies, or when you bring the car to the valet or dealership and don't want your change stolen.

the cubby next to the speedo is too small...I just dump change in the cupholders, I'm not stupid enough to put cups in there. under the ebrake is reserved for cell phone.

PM sent. I have to admit it looks much cleaner without the ash tray, especially with all the blak trim painted blue, but alas, I am a smoker and here in Chicago it's too damn cold to be rolling my window down!
