Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General Troubleshooting Window Fuse keeps Blowing HELP!!!!

I have a 97 Contour Sport and the 20a window fuse keeps blowing. I have been having problems with the drivers side window not going down for a while then it got worse about 2 months ago one of the wires from the switch got pulled out, a piece of the wire is still attached to the back of the switch and sometimes if I messed with the harness and touched the wires together the window would go down and up. It would still control all the other windows and all the other switches worked. The other day I tried and nothing happened. I check the fuse and it was blown I replaced it and as soon as I turned the car on they just kept blowing. Anyone know what it could be. Oh and is there a way to repair the busted wire.

yes, just like any electrical repair.. when the wire with power to it(the positive) hits ground it will blow a fuse it is is not burning energy by doing something (like lighting a light or moving a motor)... i would pull out the switch and disconnect the wiring harness do any repairs to the wiring harness there and if you have wires still sticking in the switch find out where they came from and correct them.. if you dont know how to do this go to an automobile electrical repair place and they will be able to do this for you alot cheaper than the dealer.....

Ok I spent all day messing with the window and no luck I can't figure out what the heck is wrong with it. I fixed the wire checked other fuses tried different things. Oh yeah anyone know where the Relay R18 - One Touch window switch is I can't find it. The manual doesn't show it. It just says Relays outside Fuse box but its not on any of the charts. I was going to check that one too just to make sure.
