When trying to accelerate in any gear the whole car starts to lurch back and forth. A good example is 60 mph try to accelerate and the shuddering begins, If I downshift its fine. confused I was told it seemed like the pressure plate acting up. A damn clutch job is $1000.00 and I would like to avoid that if possible. Its is a 2.0 with a 5 speed

its a good possibility that its the clutch, but don?t overlook the transmission and engine mounts.
A $1000 bucks for a clutch job on a four banger sounds very high.

mine was doing something very similiar. I thought it was the clutch, but instead turned out to be a misfire. changing the plugs and wires was the solution. They day before i took it to get the clutch replaced (at the lowest price i could find of $550), my dad looked at it and decided it was not in fact the clutch. Took it to a local shop in my parents hometown (after i had it towed 200 miles behind my dad's truck), and had to pay diagnostics time, as well as for parts, and the extra time because the plugs were seized into the damn aluminum head. I had clutch quotes of over $850, so if they are resurfacing or replacing the flywheel it might not be that far away from $1000. maybe check fuel and air filters too... they are cheap and easy to replace.

Are you sure your car has a 2.0? Just wondering b/c I thought all 95 SE's had the 2.5. It says you have an SE in your sig but in your question it says you have a 2.0.

If you tell the shop you have an SE they probably assume you have a 2.5 and that makes the clutch job more expensive I believe. If it is a 2.0 it should not be that much. I'd get that straight first. Dont know...I could be wrong though.
